The 38th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) was played between Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Ravindra Jadeja-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, April 25.
Punjab Kings won the match by 11 runs against Chennai Super Kings to win their 4th match of the Indian Premier League 2022.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to field first and they fielded the same playing XI from the previous match. On the other hand, Punjab Kings (PBKS) made three huge changes in the playing XI as they dropped Shahrukh Khan, Nathan Ellis and Vaibhav Arora and included Sandeep Sharma, Rishi Dhawan, who last appeared in an IPL match was on 21 May 2016, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa in the team.
Mukesh Choudhary opened the attack for Chennai Super Kings and gave away just 4 runs in the first over. PBKS openers Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan kept batting cautiously for the next 5 overs and the former lost his wicket against Maheesh Theekshana for 18 in the 6th over and at the end of the powerplay, PBKS were at 37/1.
In the next 4 overs, CSK fielders showed a poor fielding display by dropping two catches of Bhanuka Rajapaksa and at the end of the 10th over, Punjab Kings were at 72/1.
Dhawan and Rajapaksa accelerated the innings in the 12th over, which was bowled by Mukesh Choudhary, and they completed a century partnership off 71 balls.
Dwayne Bravo broke the 110 runs partnership between Dhawan and Rajapaksa by dismissing the latter for 42 in the 18th over. In the 19th over Liam Livingstone and Dhawan went berserk against Dwaine Pretorius and smashed 22 runs. However, Livingstone’s 19 runs cameo was brought to an end by Bravo in the 20th over.
Punjab Kings scored 187 runs while batting first and opener Shikhar Dhawan remained unbeaten at 88 runs off 59 balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes.
Chasing the target, Chennai Super Kings lost the wicket in the second over itself as Sandeep Sharma cleaned up Robin Uthappa. CSK once again promoted Mitchell Santner to bat at No.3 and he failed to make any major contribution and got out after scoring 9 runs off 15 balls on the 3rd ball of the 6th over.
In the very next over Rishi Dhawan cleaned up CSK’s best batter of IPL 2022, Shivam Dube, for 8. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ambati Rayudu added good 49 runs together before the former was dismissed for 30 by Kagiso Rabada in the 13th over. However, Rayudu batted brilliantly and smashed a 28 ball fifty.
In the end, Ambati Rayudu got out against Kagiso Rabada after scoring sensational 78 runs off 39 balls and the Chennai Super Kings lower-order batting unit was unable to take Chennai Super Kings past the finish line and they lost the match.
